A form photo gets rejected for one of two reasons: the file breaks a rule the portal checks automatically (size in KB, pixel size or format), or the picture breaks a rule a person checks later (background, face area, blur, caps or glasses). Find which kind you have, fix that one thing, and the Exam Photo & Signature tool can bring the file to the exact pixels and KB range on your phone.
Is it the file or the photo itself?
Look at when the rejection happened.
- The upload failed instantly with an error. That's a file problem. The IBPS PO 2026 notice says plainly that "if the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed", and that the system won't let you move forward until the photo matches the specifications.
- The upload worked, but the form was rejected or flagged later. That's a photo-content problem. A person or a matching system looked at the picture and didn't accept it.
The fixes are different, so it helps to know which one you're dealing with.
File problems the portal catches straight away
The file is too big
Phone cameras save photos of several MB, while forms want a few dozen KB. IBPS PO 2026 wants the photo between 20 KB and 50 KB. Resizing the photo to the required pixels first, then compressing, gets you there without the face turning blocky.
The file is too small
This one surprises people. A tight crop at a small pixel size can come out under the minimum, and the portal rejects it just like an oversized file. Our tool pads a file that falls below the minimum KB up to it, without changing the picture.
The pixel size is wrong
Some forms set exact dimensions. IBPS PO 2026 lists 200 × 230 pixels for the photo. Others, like NEET UG 2026, set only a KB range and no pixel size. Check your notice: if it gives pixels, match them exactly.
The format is wrong
Most exam portals want JPG or JPEG. Both the IBPS PO 2026 notice and the NEET UG 2026 bulletin ask for the photo in JPG/JPEG. iPhone photos are often saved as HEIC, and images saved from websites are often WebP. Use Convert Image to turn them into JPG first.
What three recent notices ask for
| Exam (notice year) | Photo file size | Pixel size | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBPS PO 2026 | 20–50 KB | 200 × 230 px (preferred) | JPG/JPEG |
| NEET UG 2026 | 10–200 KB | Not specified | JPG/JPEG |
| SSC CGL 2026 | No photo upload; photo is captured live | — | — |
Numbers change between exams and years, so treat this as an example and check the current notification for your exam. Ready presets for IBPS PO and NEET UG are set to these notices.
Photo problems that get a form rejected later
These pass the upload check but can still sink an application.
- Wrong background. IBPS PO 2026 wants a light-coloured, preferably white, background. NEET UG 2026 asks for a white background.
- Face too small. NEET UG 2026 says 80% of the image should be the candidate's face, with ears visible and no mask. A full-length or half-body shot fails this even at the right KB.
- Blurred or smudged. IBPS PO 2026 says an application can be rejected if the face in the photograph is unclear or smudged.
- Caps, hats or dark glasses. IBPS PO 2026 doesn't accept caps, hats or dark glasses; religious headwear is allowed if it doesn't cover the face. NEET UG 2026 allows spectacles only if you wear them regularly. For the SSC CGL 2026 live photo, the notice says no cap, mask or spectacles.
- Old or edited photos. NEET UG 2026 asked for a photo taken on or after 1 January 2026, and says Polaroid and computer-generated photos are not acceptable.
- A photo of a photo. SSC CGL 2026 captures your photo live and says applications where the candidate captured a pre-existing photograph will be rejected.
- Doesn't match you. IBPS PO 2026 and NEET UG 2026 also capture a live photo, and NEET matches it with your Aadhaar photo. Upload a recent, true likeness.
How to take a photo that passes
- Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, facing a window in daylight. Avoid a yellow bulb overhead; it throws shadows under the eyes.
- Ask someone else to hold the phone at your eye level, about an arm and a half away. Selfies distort the face.
- Take off caps and tinted glasses. If you wear clear glasses daily, check there's no glare on the lenses.
- Keep the original camera file. Don't use a copy forwarded on WhatsApp; it is already compressed and looks soft once you shrink it again.
- Zoom in before you move on. If the eyes aren't sharp, retake it now, not after submitting.
Fix the file in under a minute
- Open Exam Photo & Signature, or the preset page for your exam.
- Pick Passport photo, or the photo item on your preset.
- Select the original photo and drag the locked crop box so your face fills most of the frame, with a little space above the head and both ears inside.
- Check the KB range against your notice and edit it if it differs.
- Tap Create and download the JPG.
In our tests with the IBPS PO preset, a 5.6 MB phone photo came out at 200 × 230 px and 20.3 KB, inside the official 20–50 KB range. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
After uploading, look at the preview on the portal. IBPS PO 2026 tells candidates to check the uploaded image and re-upload it if it's unclear, so use that preview before you pay and submit.
