How to make a passport size photo sheet

Printing tips

  • Photo lab: ask for a 4×6 inch print of the JPG with no cropping or borders added.
  • Home printer: open the PDF and print at 100% or Actual size. Fit to page shrinks every photo.
  • Cut along the grey lines; the 2 mm gaps leave room for scissors or a trimmer.
  • For Indian passport applications, the Passport Seva instruction booklet says photos are not required at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, and that computer printouts are not accepted where photos are needed (https://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/pdf/ApplicationformInstructionBooklet-V3.0.pdf). Use photo paper.

How many passport size photos fit on a 4×6 print?

Eight 35 × 45 mm photos fit on one 4 × 6 inch print, in two rows of four with 2 mm gaps and cut lines. On A4 paper, 30 copies fit.

What size is an Indian passport photo?

The Passport Seva application instruction booklet asks for a colour photo of 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm with a plain white background (https://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/pdf/ApplicationformInstructionBooklet-V3.0.pdf). That is the default 35 × 45 mm size here. Check your own form, as visa and exam forms set their own rules.

Will the photos print at the right size?

Yes, if printed at 100%. The JPG is saved at 300 DPI and the PDF page is the exact paper size. Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog, never Fit to page.

Can I use an iPhone HEIC photo?

Yes. HEIC photos are converted in your browser before cropping, on iPhone, Android and desktop. Nothing is uploaded.
