About Watermark PDF: key facts and tips

Key facts

Documently Watermark PDF stamps a line of text across every page of a PDF. The text can run diagonally corner to corner, sit across the centre, or repeat all over the page, in grey or red, at light, medium or strong opacity and three sizes. Long text is shrunk automatically so it never runs off the page. A common use in India is marking copies of Aadhaar, PAN, passports or bank statements with the purpose they are shared for, such as “For KYC with XYZ Bank only”, so a copy that leaks is harder to reuse elsewhere. Naming the organisation and the purpose works better than a generic “COPY”. The watermark is added on top of the original pages without re-compressing them. Watermark text currently supports English letters, numbers and common symbols. The PDF is processed inside the browser and is never uploaded, so identity documents stay on the device.

Sharing a copy of your Aadhaar, PAN or bank statement? Stamp it with who it is for and why. A copy marked “For KYC with XYZ Bank only” is much harder to misuse than a clean one, and it takes a few seconds here.

What to write on an ID copy

  • Name the receiver and the purpose: “For SBI account opening only”.
  • Add the date if you like: “For rental agreement, Oct 2026”.
  • Use Repeat all over for identity documents, so the text can't simply be cropped out.
  • Keep it light enough that the details underneath can still be read.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write “For KYC only” on my Aadhaar PDF?

Select the Aadhaar PDF, type For KYC only (ideally with the bank or company name), choose Repeat all over or Diagonal, and tap Add watermark. If the e-Aadhaar is password-protected, remove the password with Unlock PDF first.

Can someone remove the watermark?

A determined person with PDF editing software may be able to. The watermark is a deterrent and a clear record of purpose, not a lock. For extra safety, add a password with Protect PDF as well.

Can I write the watermark in Hindi?

Not yet. The watermark uses a built-in PDF font that covers English letters, numbers and common symbols only.

Will the watermark make my document hard to read?

Not at the default Medium strength, which keeps the text underneath readable. Choose Light for a fainter mark or Strong for a bolder one.
