About Convert Image: key facts and tips

Key facts

Documently Convert Image is a free tool that turns photos into JPG, PNG or WebP inside the browser. It reads iPhone HEIC and HEIF files, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP and any other format the browser can open, up to 30 files per batch, with a single ZIP download for batches. HEIC matters because iPhones save photos in that format by default, while most Indian exam and government portals accept only JPG. Safari can open HEIC itself; on Chrome, Edge and Android the page fetches a HEIC decoder (libheif) only when a HEIC file is chosen, so other conversions stay light. Photos are turned upright using their orientation tag, so a sideways phone picture comes out the right way up. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. Converting re-saves the image and drops embedded metadata such as camera details and GPS location. Files are processed on the device and never uploaded. For a KB limit, run Compress Image afterwards.

Portals that want JPG reject iPhone HEIC photos and many WebP downloads. This tool converts them in one go, right in your browser. Pick the files, choose JPG, PNG or WebP, and download. Nothing is uploaded.

Which format should you pick?

  • JPG: for exam, job and government forms, and for sharing. Smallest files for photos.
  • PNG: for screenshots, signatures and logos that need sharp edges or transparency.
  • WebP: for websites. Some browsers, including Safari, can't save WebP; pick JPG or PNG there.

Good to know

  • Converting doesn't shrink pixels. If a form has a KB limit, use Compress Image or Resize Image next.
  • Converting to JPG turns transparent areas white.
  • Location and camera details stored in the original photo are not copied to the new file.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an iPhone HEIC photo to JPG?

Select the HEIC photo here, keep JPG as the format, and tap Convert. It works in Safari, Chrome and on Android phones. The photo is converted in your browser and is never uploaded.

Why won't the exam portal accept my iPhone photo?

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and most portals only accept JPG. Convert the photo to JPG here, then resize or compress it if the form also lists pixel or KB limits.

Can I convert many photos at once?

Yes. Select up to 30 photos in one go. Each is converted separately and you can save them one by one or download all of them as a single ZIP file.

Does converting reduce quality?

PNG output is lossless. JPG and WebP use a high quality setting, so the difference is hard to see. Pixel size stays the same; use Compress Image if you also need a smaller file.
